Point in Time

What is a Point in Time?

A Point in Time county is a measure of the number of unsheltered and sheltered people experiencing homelessness on
a single night in January. It is a snapshot of the number of people experiencing homelessness in the Fresno and Madera Counties. Each year local service providers, volunteers, and community members conduct the short survey that asks people experiencing homelessness about their history, background, and needs.

The PIT count is a critical source of data to evaluate the progress Fresno and Madera Counties are making to reduce homelessness, to better understand the types of services available according to community needs, and for policy planning and decision making.
